The Incision Widener Device addresses scenarios where the specimen within the entrapment sac is larger than expected, making it difficult to pass through a trocar-sized incision. In such cases, the Incision Widener tube (1) is deployed to widen the incision. The tube (1) is introduced fully into the trocar (30) until it reaches the desired position, see Figure 3. It is crucial for the user to ensure that the tube (1) extends sufficiently into the Peritoneum (11) to allow the blades to open smoothly within it. The stop (3) is to be sitting and connected within a specific internal surface of the trocar. Once the tube (1) is in position, the user rotates the knob (11) or activates the motor (16) to rotate the lever screw (10).
The rotation of the threaded rod moves the cylinder (20) down, causing the link-blades (21) and (22) to open to the desired position, see Figure 4. The user can rotate the knob a measured amount indicated by the marks on the top of the Knob (12). The rotation of the know one mark will represent a movement of the rod (10) a measured amount and the opening of the link-blades a predefined amount. Once the link-blades (21) an (22) are fully opened, the user can begin withdrawing the device all together with the trocar. As the device is pulled out, the link-blades (21) and (22) will cut the abdominal wall to widen the original incision.
